Rakomelo Cretan Raki Honey
Rakomelo Cretan raki honey made with local high quality honey and traditional Cretan raki created by the Pitarokoilis family. Tsikoudia also called raki in the eastern part of Crete is a fragrant grape based pomace brandy of Cretan origin that contains from forty percent to sixty five percent alcohol by volume. It is made by distilling the pomace which includes the grape pieces seeds and stems that remain after the winemaking process.
The pomace is kept sealed for about six weeks and then slowly distilled producing a clean aromatic spirit closely tied to Cretan tradition. The name raki also gives the word rakizio which describes the festive distillation gatherings among family friends and neighbors. Blended with pure Cretan honey this rakomelo offers a smooth warm and naturally sweet flavor that can be enjoyed either warm or cold.
